You may have spotted their black and white trailer around at many of the markets and events happening in Newcastle lately, or noticed it tucked away in a car park just off Glebe Road (and yes you can park there if you’re a customer). Owner Lynn has brought a unique addition to Newcastle’s food scene with Bubble Tea Bar and if you’re a vanilla flavour fan then I have to recommend the Taro option (it’s the purple coloured one).
Tell us a bit about yourself and your background?
"Well I’m actually a psychologist and I’ve been doing it for years and was just looking for something else to do. I’d had Bubble Tea down in Cabramatta, and thought, why not bring it up here to Newcastle."
For those who might not know, what exactly is Bubble Tea?
"A lot of people still get excited about it and ask 'what’s Bubble Tea' so we’re educating people and converting them at the same time [laughs]. It’s a traditional Taiwanese sweet, milky tea, and the bubbles are Tapioca pearls. Traditionally though, bubble tea was called that because they would shake up the milk and there would be bubbles on top, but now it’s known for the Tapioca pearls in the bottom."
